Okay, so I saw an interview with John Krasinski (Jim) and he said that no characters were leaving. It's more like another show from the creators of The Office.

Yeah, I have to reiterate what everyone else is saying. At some point the show will go from mildly amusing to laugh out loud funny. I'm not sure when it happened and I know it doesn't happen at the same time for everyone. It's well worth the effort to get in to it, though.

Cap'n, I too didn't get the appeal of The Office for a long time. And I'd actually tried a smattering of full episodes. Then I watched the UK version and adored it. Finally decided one last time to try, so I went back to season one of the American version and started watching straight through and somehow, I don't know when or why, it clicked for me.

It might never for you, but if it does, it becomes really compelling.

I've heard the theory that the spin-off might focus on Karen and her branch, but my theory is that corporate finally realizes Ryan's got nothing to offer and cans him. Then the crew follows him to his new job which is totally different, but still a dysfunctional office. And Kelly keeps hounding him, of course.

Cap'n - that's just sad that you haven't seen it until last night. Seriously - you should catch some episodes from seasons 1 and 2.

Cap'n, like Kory said...you need to start from Season 1, and then you get to know the characters and that's why it's funny.

Jumping into it now, you have no idea why just a "look" from Jim to the camera is hilarious.

The show takes times to develop. Once you get into the characters and their idiosyncrasies, the show becomes extremely addictive.

I relate it to Seinfeld. I was not a fan at first but once I learned the ins and outs of each character, I was hooked.

This might rattle some feathers but, ...
I've never seen an office episode, I've seen highlights, but never an entire episode...untill last night double feature. And I have to say... I dont get it. It wasnt that funny. Really. It was maybe amusing in some parts, but outright gotta have it, I'm crying so hard funny, its not. Its more akward about all of the politically incorrect things they do on the show than it is funny...it seemed like a fake reality tv show. I didnt get it, but that's just me.
