  • Vista actually hasn't been that bad for me. A few older or quirky games have had a little trouble or wouldn't run but that's it. All in all, not as bad as going from Win98 to XP. I think some people get thrown by the extra security, after all, Windows users don't like some security monitor cramping their spyware downloading style.

A Mac or Linux desktop simply isn't an option for me since about 98% of my work is Windows based development in C# or VB.NET. I do plan to get a home Linux webserver setup sometime soon though.
  • Well, I can't live totally without Windows either, so I use a virtual machine on Ubuntu to run XP on in order to use Photoshop and that kind of thing.

I still haven't installed Office on it yet as I'm growing pretty comfortable with OpenOffice.
  • I'm only in week 2 with Vista on my new laptop, but so far so good. I think the key is to turn off a lot of the extra stuff that Vista has pre-loaded.

I'd like to try Linux, but it's not an option in my Windows world....sadly. I also would have bought a Mac if they weren't almost twice as much and ran Windows based software better.
  • I just went back to a Mac after using XP for several years. I'm not anti-Windows at all, I just love my Mac.
