Lost recap: ‘The Economist’

Started by Mike Olbinski · 10 months ago

Well now…we have a new set of questions in the Lost universe, the big one is: Who is R.G.?
This episode was PACKED with stuff and if you are as “lost” as I am, please raise your hand.
Lost: The Economist starts off with Sayid praying, then he walks ... Continue reading »

  • As for the 31 minutes, I'm still thinking along the lines of a pocket universe.

  • Great episode last night. One correction in what you wrote. In a couple of places you said that Jake sent Penny to the beach to get Desmond and then later, that Penny and Desmond come back to the helicopter. That is Juliette, not Penny.

    1. The time traveling payload was pretty cool - crazy stuff...
    2. Dan tells the pilot to remember to stay on the bearing they came in on and do not divert no matter what - that is the same thing that Ben told Michael and Walt when they left on the boat. It seems to be a very narrow way off the island, but many ways on.
    3. I can't tell if Kate really wanted to stay from last nights episode or if Sayid was just saying that and Kate was included in the swap...
    4. R.G. - I was thinking that it might be Richard, one of the islands original inhabitants - he has been conspicuously missing the last few episodes
    5. What the heck happened to the cabin? Was it there but because Locke was with other people he could not see it. Which raises the question - if that is the case then how could Hurley see it before...?
    6. Something huge had to have happened for Sayid to be working in any sort of capacity with Ben.
  • Smallville rocked last night!!!! Finally a good one this season =)
  • Haven't finished it yet Cap'n :)
  • Thanks Ape for the corrections...sometimes you are just sleepy and coupled with writing, they don't mix well :)
  • Another interesting thing... Frank made sure to tell Daniel when he gave him the phone that if Mankowski answered to hang up. Why don't they trust him????

Great episode, great season. Captain, I am so sad for you.
  • Is Mankowski Ben's inside man?
  • Crazy episode! Regarding the Ape's comment about Richard. I know that we last left off with Ben telling him to take the others to the 'Temple' or 'old place' or something. Another thing, he's now a major acting role in the show Cane and the Lost producers have talked about how they are going to have to be creative with how they can get him on the Lost set since he's busy with another show. So if Cane is going to stick around, we may not see Richard on a consistent basis.
  • You would think that the Others are going to show up sometime soon again. We can't forget that they are still on the island and may want their scary leader back some time.
  • Too many groups running around now...

    1. The Losties
    2. The Tailies (only one left)
    3. The Others
    4. The Hostiles
    5. The Frieghties
    6. Dharma...if there are any left

Danielle does not really fit into any of these groups...weird.
  • It was definitely a great episode. Too much information to process. If Mankowski is Ben's inside man and they don't trust him they could be feeding him bad information...don't know how that would come in to play, but...

Don't think we have to worry about Richard being gone for Cane. I could be wrong, but...

I'm not sure if the time traveling thing is the coolest or the fact that Sayid is an assassin...and working for Ben...

  • Amazing episode--I love Sayid, and the twist is pretty good.

    Couple things:

    1) Daniel was called "Sam" by his wife/girlfriend in the premiere--not sure if anyone noticed that.

    2) My theory now is that Ben's man on the boat is Michael. We know he's coming back, but how would they do it? Where would this team of people (Daniel, Frank, Naomi, etc) get the information about what bearing to use to get to the island? Michael must have been told by Ben to give the group their information--why, I don't know, but it seems to make a bit of twisted sense.

    3) I'm still miffed that we have seen NOTHING of the Others yet. They were going to some "temple" when Ben left them, but who really knows what that is?

    4) I know it's how the story is progressing, but I found it extremely difficult to see Hurley/Locke/Sawyer vs. Sayid and Kate. It's just... weird. And seeing Rousseau with a gun pointed at Sayid on orders from Locke just screws up my whole Lost mojo.

    5) Current list of island survivors (not necessarily the Oceanic 6):
    Jack
    Kate
    Hurley
    Sayid
    Ben

That's not many--considering how many people are still unaccounted for:
Claire (who I think dies this season, right when Jack finds out she's his half-sister)
    Aaron
    Sun
    Jin
    Rose
    Bernard
    Locke
    Sawyer
Try picking two survivors out of that. (My choice this week: Sun and Sawyer)

    Desmond
    Alex
    Rousseau
    Carl
    Juliet
    Richard

    Crazy season so far.
  • I don't think you can count Richard since he seems to come and go from the island to the outside world. Also, you forgot Desmond in item #5 - he is on the helicopter out to the freighter - who knows if he makes it any further than that.
  • So like 40 is the new 30, is 5 the new 'couple' amount nowadays? =)
  • I don't think they called Daniel "Sam" I think the lady said "Dan."
Great great episode! I love Sayid, he is such a badass, slick assassin! Ben must have regained some power to hold over Sayid's head since he must work and kill for him to protect the survivors still left behind. Obviously Ben knows how to travel back and forth so he still hasn't shared that ability with the Losties. Otherwise, Jack and Hurley could just go back to him to find out how to return. Maybe I'm wrong but who knows! haha.

  • Yeah, you're probably right about "Dan" vs. "Sam"--I was told that by someone else. Oh and in case anyone is curious, the woman was described as Daniel's caretaker, not his wife or girlfriend in repeats. At least, that's what Lostpedia says. Why would Daniel need a caretaker? Interesting little bit of info there.
  • Daniel does seem a little bit "off"...maybe he has some mental illness or a reason to be wateched?
  • If I were one of the Losties, I would definitely plug Ben's ears and put some duct tape on his mouth - that guy is taking in information on all of them everytime someone opens their mouth and we've seen countless times he used mindgames on them all!
  • The could just go "Reservoir Dogs" on him! :)

"Stuck in the middle with you..."
  • Frank...that was sick...that link...I read almost the entire thing and it just feels like they hit the nail on the head.
