Lost recap, episode 4×04: ‘Eggtown’

Started by Mike Olbinski · 10 months ago

The biggest question I had from this episode was the title. Eggtown? What does Eggtown mean or refer to?
Just the fact that Locke was cooking up eggs for Ben? Since he said they were the last of them, it’s really not much of an “egg town” anymore is it%3 ... Continue reading »

  • Another amazing episode.

I can't really figure out what "Eggtown" means either. Perhaps it is referring to Locke's little civilization and how it might just be crumbling or is pretty fragile.

As for the Aaron revelation--they did a major foreshadow, probably one of the most obvious foreshadowing that the ENTIRE SERIES has had when Kate wouldn't pick up Aaron.

The question about Aaron being one of the Oceanic 6 is a very interesting one as well. I mean, he WAS on the plane, after all.

In regards to Claire, I'm convinced she dies on the island, probably this season. Now, I'm guessing it's something that Jack feels guilty about or he knows that Aaron is actually his nephew. My theory is that Jack finds out that Claire is his sister either right before or right after her death, he could have prevented Claire's death (or he thinks he could have), and his guilt is what is making him not want to see the baby.

Mind blowing stuff, and I'm really, really looking forward to seeing Sayid and Desmond next week. (And maybe Michael-as Ben's spy-on the freighter? That's my other theory, anyway)
  • Oh. Oops. I was supposed to start watching 'Lost' for the first time. I guess it was tonight. Can I just read your recaps and call it even?

    :(
  • I'm thinking that if Claire dies then they (Jack) wouldn't feel guilty about bringing Aaron back because it would be a good thing to help him when he has no mom. However, if they TOOK him, for reasons still unknown, but for which they felt they had no choice at the time but now Jack regrets...yeah, that would make Jack feel pretty bad... But Kate still thinks it was the right thing to do for some reason.

And is it just me or does Kate seems a little less likable now that she knows Jack loves her but she's still whoring around with Sawyer?

  • Whoring around, but they didn't go ALL THE WAY, so that at least says something...she's "trying" now, lol.

I still think Claire could have died, and Jack just can't bear to look at Aaron because it reminds him of her, and he might have found out she's his sister. I dunno.

But I also agree with Jason, so damn me!

Eggtown, Locke's Town, I like that Chaplin...
  • Oceanic 8 = the Oceanic 6 + Michael and Walt...
  • Or so you think!
  • Nice recap, as always. I didn't get the Eggtown reference, either. But from Lostpedia we have: "The Easter Egg Escapade: this children’s book, by John Michael Williams, was published in 1991. It tells the story of Eggtown, a peaceful village where rabbits and chickens live together in harmony until a band of thieving roosters conspire to steal all of Eggtown’s Easter Eggs. In order to retrieve the eggs, an unlikely group of heroes volunteers to go on the perilous journey. The ending features the redemption of Terrible Timothy Take-It, the leader of the thieving roosters."

Glad I didn't try to figure it out. Never would have guessed that.

  • I propose this equation instead:
    Oceanic 8 = the Oceanic 6 + Claire and ???

Not sure on who the 8th could be, but somehow the Oceanic 6 has to explain why a baby showed up. Claire survived the plane crash, but the story is that she gives birth, later 'dies' on the island and Kate decides to take care of the baby. Whether Claire is really dead or not, I dunno. Why would Claire and Aaron be separated in the first place? Although Aaron could have just been taken away, I prefer to believe that when the last group of the Oceanic 6 is taken off the island, there's no room for Claire but she asks them to at least take the baby with them.
  • Ooooh...interesting Adrian...we don't know if the rest of the world thinks it's HER kid or adopted. Hmmm...
  • Kathy, nice find...the Locke town did seem a bit peaceful...almost strangely peaceful so soon (sitting around, making coffee, etc).
  • Oh, one more thing. When my husband and I watched the show together, we BOTH thought Kate said "Hi, Eric." Eric! Who? What? It's a shame, because "Aaron" clearly had better shock value and now we missed it. We apparently need our ears checked.

Kathy's last blog post..Throwing Money at the Problem
  • That would have been a huge letdown :) Eric?
  • I think Kate is trying to pass Aaron off as hers, because why else would her mom be so eager to meet "her grandson" unless she really thought it was hers.
  • True Jina, true...
  • Kate is a huge liar and player. She loves using people to get what she wants. Something tells me she is pulling a con, by pretending Aaron is her son (Even if she really does love him as her son). Why is she doing it? She knew her mother wouldn't want to make her Grandson an orphan, and wouldn't testify against Kate. I think she is pulling a Scooby-Doo on her mother and the whole world O_o
  • I believe that she is letting on as if it were her biological son. Also, the wife and I heard Aaron - but we have the advantage of DVR to rewind and rewatch. :)

  • I don't think it's just her obviously, Jack knows too...so it's not so much about Kate as it's part of the lie they had to stick to.
  • I am curious to know if Jack even knows that Aaron is his nephew or not. Do you think that ever gets revealed?

  • I still want to know what happens to Locke in the future... If he dies, I'll die inside .___.
  • The Trousered Ape:

I am pretty sure I read in many places that Jack will find out about their blood relation in Season 4. I am pretty sure it'll be either on the Island, or Ben will tell him. Afterall "The Others" have very detailed information about all the Losties.
  • MadFan, I think I read that too...
  • Well - that would explain the strain between Jack and Kate.

  • one thing. maybe kate is not pretending it's her biological son since her lawyer wanted to bring him into the trial as a character witness. he made it seem like a great thing she did, so when he said that (which is when i figured it was aaron) i thought it was maybe b/c she is taking care of him for a supposedly dead claire. who knows though!

  • One thought I had is that 'the world' thinks that Aaron is the child of Jack and Kate. That's why the prosecutor asked Jack if he still loved Kate. We don't know exactly how long they were lost so there could have been time enough. In any case, the world at large, including legal authorities, apparently has no reason to question if Aaron is Kate child.

As for the 3.2 million, I suspect that Miles is trying to exact some sort of revenge on Ben based on that number.

  • I think this is a good recap of the eggtown episode. However,
I disagree with the perception that prior to finding out the baby is Aaron, that we are to assume that Jack doesn't want to see the baby because it is His. Earlier in the Episode Kate informs Sawyer that she is not pregnant contrary to what is percieved from a prior episode. Sawyer is extactically relieved, and that makes Kate disappointed. I believe the writers purpose was to make us wonder whether Kate may have been lying to Sawyer that her pregnacy was a false alarm, and that Sawyer would most likely not find out about it esp. since Kate believes she is going to be rescued, while Sawyer wishes to stay on the island. Thus later on in Eggtown. When Jack and Kate are in the parking garage we are supposd to think that Jack doesn't want to see the baby because it's Sawyer's w/ Kate. It makes no sense that Jack would not want to see his own son, but perfect sense why he wouldn't want to see her son if she had it with Sawyer. Not a very important detail, but when you are writing a summary for serious veiwers it should be accurate.
  • Good points Zach (your first comment)...I guess you could have seen it both ways, and that part of the recap isn't exactly a "recap" as much as it was a theory.

There could be many reasons why he didn't want to see the kid and we really had no idea whether or not it was his, or Sawyers, or what time in the future it was...

I saw the situation different I guess...Jack obviously still loves Kate, but the child was stopping him from seeing here.

Maybe thinking it was his at that point was erroneous, but who knows, it could have been any reason. I'm certain you could come up with a plausible explanation why he wouldn't want to see his own kid.

Regardless, thanks for reading the recap and all, I hope you stick around and join is for some good Lost discussions, you raised a good point.
  • @ Zach - your second question, I'm pretty sure the end of season 3 was after all this.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that all these flash-forwards and such, all the stories, are going to lead up to that point and next season, or whenever, we'll catch up to that point and follow what happens afterwards.

    Just my opinion.
  • To connect the dots and understand things better, you need to create a time line where you arrange the events in the flash-forwards.

    For instance, let's say this:

    ---1---2---3---4----------------###------> Timeline

    1= ??????? Getting off the island ????????
    2= ????????
3= When Kate was on trial (Season 4 ep 4)
4= When Jack saw Hurly and told him he's considering growing a beard (Season 4 ep 1)
    ### = When Jack tried to suicide and called Kate to meet him (Season 3 finale)

Keep flashforwards in order and keep filling missing pieces and things will make perfect sense. Also, does anyone have any idea when did Saiyd's assassination missions take place? I haven't seen a single detail that implies it was happening before or after Jack attempts to suicide.

However, if Ben is the person in the casket (Season 3 Jack's flashforward), then Saiyd's flashforward happened before Jack's suicide attempt.

I still want to find out why are they lying.. Why are they hiding the truth.. Jack, Hurly and Charlie mentioned "He needs us" "We have to go back"... Who is this "he" ?

I guess these questions is the thing that keeps pulling us back to watch Lost every single week. <3 Lost <3
  • There were no clues, that I can remember, of when Sayid's flash-forward took place. The Season 3 finale is definitely the furthest ahead in time the show has gone.
