Lost recap, episode 4×08: ‘Meet Kevin Johnson’

Started by Mike Olbinski · 10 months ago

We have to wait until April 24th now? After THAT episode?

The writers on Lost love to leave us hanging. I have no clue if this was a planned cliffhanger or not, but because of the writer's strike, this episode was the last of the original eight produced. Did they know in the bac ... Continue reading »

  • Well, now we know why Tom told Kate that she wasn't his type. It just confirms this old rumor about him being gay.

With Michael not being able to kill himself it reminds me of the Final Destination movies except in reverse.

It will be interesting to see if they can nail down the exact timeline of when Michael and Walt returned to civilization and when Tom met with him in NYC and how these events line up. There seems like there might be a continuity problem in there somewhere.

  • So now we have seen on 3 occasions that somebody has 'word to do'. Tom told Michael that, taller ghost Walt told Locke that, and in the final mobisode Christian says that about Jack. It more and more highlights the importance of fate in this show, but for what reason I don't know. Loved the episode, though. Now I really can't wait for my birthday next month :)
  • The Manhattan connection of Michael, his suicide attempts and the dead guy in the coffin is interesting. It would make sense Michael is the one in the coffin after watching last night's suicide attempts and he is not exactly makes amends with anyone.

I thought the same thing re the sound in the background in Libby's 2nd scene. Totally thought it sounded like the smoke monster.

All in all, another great episode and more so, a fantastic ending! Sucks to have to wait 4 weeks until it airs again.
  • I hate the idea of Aaron being one of the Oceanic Six, mostly because it doesn't make sense. Everyone in Kate's flash-forward thought that he was Kate's son (including her mom, who wanted desperately to meet her grandson), but the details don't work. People would have known that Kate wasn't pregnant on the plane; how then do you explain Aaron's age? The only possibility that I see is maybe how the island time warp plays into it.
  • Jina makes good points, I really disliked Aaron being an O6.

Kory, glad you heard the sound I did!

If Michael is in the coffin, it makes sense that no one would want to go...
  • This episode also gives us an idea of why Sayid might be working for Ben in the future. Since he outed Micheal this caused some 815 people to killed and he has a need to correct this mistake.

Also, if Michael is the one in the coffin that means that the Island finally allowed him to die where Jack still has work to do and can't kill himself even though he's tried.

I anticipate a scene where the Freighter Commandos attack and Hurley is captured because their weapons fail when they try to shoot him. :)

  • The big cliffhanger for me will be the wait to see if Rousseau is dead or not. I've grown to like her over the progression of the show, so I hope she lives. I think she deserves a better death scene than that - she needs to go out fighting! Also - Ben is so cold and calculating enough, that I think it was a setup - him sending them to the Temple. I think he instructed the Others to fire on Alex's crazy mommy and her annoying boyfriend, if they ever saw them again. So, Ben got what he wanted - they are out of the picture and his adopted daughter is safe with his people and is somewhat under his control again. Possessive jerk!

  • I was going to mention the Sayid thing too. If he is working for Ben in the future, he obviously changes his mind about Ben. So I'm guessing the ousting of Michael to the captain has really bad consequences. About Aaron, I took it to mean when Kate's lawyer wanted him to be brought in as a "character witness" that people knew she adopted him or whatever for a "dead" Claire. Maybe that's just me speculating though!

  • Nicky, Kate's mom wanted to see her "grandson" so it seems like they all thought it was Kate's child???

Also, I wonder if Sayid is working for Ben sort of the same way Michael is...he has work left to do before the Island will let him go.

Man this show is great, I cannot wait to see how they get off the Island and why some people stay.
  • I know it sounds bad, but I'm actually glad that 2 not very important characters died this week. The cast is getting too expanded and we don't get to see our favorites or the core cast members together very much anymore. I am not happy that Jin died , if he even did die, but I think Lost needs to continue to do away with some less than important cast members, for the sake of the coveted ones.

P.S. I regret to admit that I was totally wrong about Aaron not being one of the Oceanic 6. However, the Oceanic 6 plus one theory still applies since Sun had a successful birth. So I'm not entirely wrong.

Also about Aaron being Kate's son. Now that you mention it, it doesn't make much sense. Plus if her claim is that she was some unnoticably 6 months pregnant on the plane, her rescue story of Jack and three others seems impossible. Definitely need some clarity here. Maybe we give the writers too much credit sometimes, and they just made a mistake.
  • I was thinking about you Zach when you mentioned awhile ago about there being too many characters...and then bam, two get shot :)
  • Now I think about it... Everyone seems to be forgetting something!

Where did the helicopter go? Personally I have a theory:

Ben had many chances to kill Karl before, he never did it. He was always "afraid" of how his people would look at him if he ever resorted to such actions.

Also, remember what is the punishment for killing "one of them" ? Juliet was going to be executed for killing one of the Others. If Ben layed a trap to kill Karl (One of the Others), wouldn't the Others kill Ben for killing one of them?

Ben had Karl captive before, he threw him in a jail, he tried to brainwash him, but he didn't attempt to kill him.

When Locke and his group ran into Charlotte. Ben grabbed Karl's gun when he let his guard down and shot Charlotte. He could've killed Karl if he wanted to.

Ben didn't want Michael to kill everyone on the freighter, because there are some "good" people. And he wanted to prove that he isn't a heartless monster to Michael (Even though he is a heartless bastard). If Ben was a heartless murderer, why wouldn't he put a working bomb on the freighter and let Michael end it right there?

All I said is to support this weird theory I've been thinking about:

Where is Frank Lapidus? He took off on an assignment...
Frank went back to the freighter and reported what they found on the Island. The captain told them to prepare guns to get Ben by force. A few freighter people joined Frank and went to the Island. The first people they ran into are Danielle, Alex and Karl. Since they are under orders to kill anyone except Ben... They do so. When Alex started shouting that she is Ben's daughter, they stopped shooting. She could come in handy in the future.

One last note: The guns that were used were high-tech. I'd say sniper guns with silencers or something fancy. Ever seen anything like this on the Others? Even the Dharma artilery (The guns in the Hatch) weren't that high-tech.

    So yeah.. discuss
  • Wow...interesting thoughts MadFan...I really have no idea. I don't think it would be totally out of the question for The Others to have high-powered, high-tech sniper rifles, but I see your points.

Can't wait for the show to come back on, now I need to know!
  • I do agree that the helicopter probably inserted the assault team on the Island.

The weapons weren't all that fancy though. Given the lack of accuracy, silence and rapid firing plus what we've seen previously on the freighter they were most likely H&K MP5 submachineguns with a silencers and sub-sonic ammo, a typical special forces weapon for quiet operations.

  • Boy Frank, you do know your guns and toys huh <_< *scared*
  • MadFan - Uncle Sam used to pay me to count weapons, ammo and volleyballs. :)

The Island armory has several logistics problems, most notably incompatible ammo types. Of course, in typical Hollywood fashion, they play fast and loose with what ammo goes into what firearm.

  • Other than Sayid, I cant get over how welcoming everyone is to see Micheal.... even Sun is oh hey Michael I'm pregnant... HEY SHOT TWO CHICK YOU WHACKED OUT BROAD... why are you happy in talking to him... whatever... I can only hope once Jack's dad released ole Kevin Johnson, it meant he is now dead and could die...
