Pop Critics: Nathan Fillion as the next Indiana Jones?

  • jina · 1 year ago
I think Nathan Fillion is great, but I feel like this opportunity would just screw him. Four Indy movies with Harrison Ford, then all of a sudden change the actor. I think he will constantly be compared to the original, and that's a tough gig.

    Not after last night :)

But you make a good point.

I think if the re-boot the series with a new Indy it could work. We've only had one movie in 20 years, so starting over seems possible.

A lot may ride on the latest version, which I haven't seen yet.

Hmm. I did enjoy "Young Indiana Jones", and I do think the series could use a "Batman Begins" style revival, as the series may have officially jumped the shark on this one. Although I did enjoy seeing Indy in action again, there are so many things that were wrong and just required LITTLE tweaks to make it all better again. The "Indy fanatic" in me was very very disappointed. It wasn't a "Batman and Robin" failure, but closer to "Batman Returns". The suspension of disbelief was thrown out the window, and with it the script. Give me a sequel with a younger, grittier Jones. Clive Owen would be my pick.

Well, you'd have a couple of problems with a reboot scenario. One would be the obvious fact that they've already aged the character.

The biggest problem, however, would be George Lucas. The man made them wait 19 years to make another movie because he refused to do any story except the one he wanted to do. I hardly think he's going to be open to rebooting the franchise with a new actor. None of them need the money so there just wouldn't be anything in it for them.

I like Fillion, but I don't see him as Indiana Jones. I can't see anyone using his whip besides Ford.

Im with Ana, dig Fillion, but Jones should stop with Ford.

Jason, it doesn't matter that they've "aged" the character. This is going to be a groan-y comparison, but Obi-Wan Kenobi went from old to young, didn't he? :)

That's true, Robert, but Obi-Wan started as old and not as a younger character which Indy did with Harrison Ford. Ford has now played him from younger to older and to put someone else in the role somewhere inbetween would seem odd.

Maybe if they went back prior to the first movies and did Young Indiana Jones movies, but that never really caught on before so I don't know.

Eh, to me Indy started out almost middle aged, not young, but I see your point.

Fallion needs his own show, something new, something that hasn't been done before, like when Indiana Jones first came out. Maybe there is a story for him out there...I hope so. If they do however re-cast Indiana Jones, Nathan is a great actor in my book.
