I think it ran for 2 or 3 seasons, so it wasn't like it didn't have a chance. What sucked is they cancelled it abruptly and without warning, before Chris Carter had a chance to answer all the mysteries. He ended up writing a cross-over episode on X-files to resolve the story for all the fans.

I also loved "John Doe" and "Touching Evil" and both those shows were cancelled after the first season. At least the main actors all went on to do more successful things. Dominic Purcell (John Doe) has gone on to do "Prison Break" and Jeffrey Donovan (Touching Evil) has gone on to do "Burn Notice" - both highly successful shows.

D.L. I've been waiting for years to catch that one.

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

Nicky, that show just came out on DVD and Jina and I have been dying to see it...it's one of the those shows that people recommend from the canceled group. Nice pick!

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

Shasta McNasty...just kidding, that was awful! Although, if you think about it, they totally did the Mc thing before Grey's. Who knew? haha.
Um, I really used to love My So Called Life. It was such a teen, mid 90s, grunge era show. Really captured that time well but only lasted one season. And it really started the careers of Claire Danes and Jared Leto. I also really wish Felicity lasted longer than it did...I'm getting teary just thinking about it.

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

I remember a little about Space Above and Beyond, maybe I'll try to watch that again.

Also, Drive...I stopped after a few episodes...it was good, but started getting a bit too far-fetched. I also got a bit tired of the same freeway flashing by during all the chase scenes.

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

I would have to agree with Firefly. If that show had been on the sci-fi channel, it'd still be on today. Sadly, it was on FOX.

And I had almost forgotten about Space Above and Beyond. I'm going to have to search for that DVD. Another FOX sci-fi letdown.

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

The Flash, and Space Above and Beyond

The Flash was in the 90's, a little dated if you were to see it today, but it was well done at the time, it was cancelled simply becuase it was pre-empted by the Gulf war., episodes were never reshown, or placed in extremely odd hours, and thus never picked up as noone watched it (duh, noone had a choice).

Space Above and Beyond was the BSG of its time, it was a gritty diversity filled continual conflict between humans to get organized to repel alien invaders. If you thought Bill Buchanon was cool on 24, he was AWESOME as the commander on this series. This only lasted one season, and sure enough was a Fox series.

Both the Flash and Space Abovce and Beyond are on DVD today, I would recommend Space to everyone...I have it , anyone wanna borrow it?

Also...
I really did enjoy Drive, this year... right up until Fox cut the series after 4 episodes.... Hmmm, I see a pattern.....

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

Yes, I would have to agree on the VM vote.

Even when the story got criticized for veering off the season long mystery arc, it's safe to say that VM as a character had enough unique entertainment value to keep it all going much, much longer!

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

All awesome choices...Freaks and Geeks is a good one.

I plan on doing a blog next spring for the summer on shows that you need to watch on DVD that were short lived or whatever, and that's going to be on it.

I think one of your choices will be my wife's for sure :)

Re: The Friday Question: 11/2/07

As you know Mike, I've gone through and watched a lot of short-lived shows.

Freaks and Geeks is probably the pinnicle; great show, amazing writing (Apatow) and production, short run (less than one season) and not a great ending.

I also enjoyed Veronica Mars (which had plenty of stories left to tell) and SportsNight (I've only watched S1, because I wanted to save the rest for later).
