Pop Critics: The Friday Question - Edward Norton

  • Cap'n Schwartz · 1 year ago
Can I say the Hulk yet without seeing it?!? No, ok then I'll say the illusionist, but I really liked him in the Score with Dinero as well....but the Illusionist was good stuff....
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
Hands down - without question - Primal Fear. Probably one of the best performances I've ever seen by any actor - they way he can flip around in that movie was unbelievable.
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
I think I missed Primal Fear too, dangit. I need to make a list of movies to watch.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
That is my absolute favorite Norton movie, along with American History X and Fight Club.
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
I'm beginning to wonder if you actually like good movies...you haven't seen ANY of them.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
    lol
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
I've friggin' seen Fight Club, YOUR favorite, so I've seen at least ONE smart guy :)
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
    Touché
  • R.A. Porter · 1 year ago
I'd totally forgotten about that movie. I don't think it's a very good movie, but he is *amazing* in it. The first of his many double-personality roles.

But my favorite is still Rounders. It's not his movie; he's just great support for Damon, but it's my favorite movie he's been in. One of my favorite movies, period.
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
Primal Fear and Rounders are definitely honorable mentions. Norton himself was incredible in American History X. But I have to say my favorite is definitely Fight Club. Edward Norton, Brad Pitt in a David Fincher film that messes with your head - can't beat it.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
I don't know if Norton's acting was better in Fight Club. The story was probably better as well as the supporting cast, but I still think his best acting was in Primal Fear. He nails that part.
  • nicky · 1 year ago
I loved him in the Painted Veil. It's more of a chick flick :) I know Adrian thinks American History X has some of the best acting ever so I'm 100% sure that's his pick. He probably won't be around to answer though so I'll speak for him!
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
Not sure I was call it a chick flick...but it was fantastic.

    American History X was awesome.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
You saw it? Mostly like a chick flick then... :)
  • nicky · 1 year ago
I just meant compared to most of his other movies, that one is more in tune with girl preferences. Love, drama, break up to make up...and cholera. Who doesn't enjoy some good E.D. in their movies?! :)
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
Cholera's always good for a laugh...I mean a dramatic obstacle to overcome.
  • Dadofiandi · 1 year ago
I say Rounders because I liked that movie better than Fight Club or American History X. Didn't see Primal Fear either eventhough heard it is really good.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
You guys are killing me that you haven't seen Primal Fear.
  • Dadofiandi · 1 year ago
I got to look at his filmography but there was some reason I didn't like
Norton and Richard Gere well he has sucked since Internal Affairs.
  • Dadofiandi · 1 year ago
Hmm will see it maybe, like Andre Braugher and John Mahoney too.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
It's worth the watch - just for Norton's acting alone.
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
"You make me sad sometimes." - Jason A Clark
  • Dadofiandi · 1 year ago
;0) it takes a lot for me to sit and watch an hour long program much less a
    movie.
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
I was pretending I was Jason giving you crap for not seeing Primal Fear.

I can't watch movies on a computer either.
  • DLWhite · 1 year ago
My favorite Edward Norton movie - The Illusionist. (Paul Giamatti is great in this one too.) However, if we're talking about the movie that best showcases his acting... I'd say it's a tie between American History X and The 25th Hour.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
    WHAT!?
  • DLWhite · 1 year ago
Frankly... it's been so long since I've seen Primal Fear, I'd have to watch it again to compare it to Amer. Hist. X and 25th Hour. Although Edward Norton was nominated for an Oscar for Primal Fear... hmm... I dunno... maybe I spoke too soon.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
I'm not knocking his other movies because he is pretty solid in being really good in whatever he does, but I think Primal is by far his best work.
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
I'm sure he's good in it, but to give a "WHAT?!" for American History X is crazy, I mean, he was amazing in that.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
I'm not knocking his other movies at all. I'm just saying that the best acting he has done is in Primal Fear. AHX is probably my second favorite movie of his that he has done. He does a great job in that - but when looking at it from a purely acting view point - he has yet to top Primal Fear, in my opinion.
  • Mike Olbinski · 1 year ago
I guess I need to see it then...because he's been amazing in about 3-4 other movies.
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
I'm with Mike on this one. Norton was incredible in American History X.
  • Cap'n Schwartz · 1 year ago
    Hi5!!! another Illusionist fan!! =)
  • DLWhite · 1 year ago
YES! Gotta love everything about that movie! :)
  • robertb · 1 year ago
Primal Fear is great. He gets to do more in American History X and you see his acting chops even more, but I think I liked Primal Fear better, just because of the ending.
  • daddyjason · 1 year ago
The thing about Primal Fear, and I can still remember seeing it when it came out, is that you walked out of the theater KNOWING that Edward Norton was going to be a star. I mean, it was just one of those roles. I remember telling my friends that they needed to go see the movie because Edward Norton was amazing and was destined to be a star.

So I can see why someone would pick it as the favorite.
  • The Trousered Ape · 1 year ago
Exactly! And I'm not even picking the movie as a movie. I'm picking Norton's acting in that movie as the best I've ever seen him at. He is no slouch and he's done some really good work - but if you want to see him shine - that's the movie to see him in.
  • robertb · 1 year ago
I had the exact same reaction. I wanted to know what he was going to be in next, because you could tell he was a great one.
  • The Kid and I · 1 year ago
Fight Club all the way people! In what other movie do you get Ed Norton AND Brad Pitt in one pretty little package?
