The Trousered Ape's last blog post..Red, The New Blu
Which is my favorite? Tough one, I have 2 that just about tie, but one leads out the other by a hair. Since forever my favorite has been the Flash (among the various super speedsters, there have been 4 different Flashes who have donned the red costume, 2 have died, including Bart Allen who you saw in the Smallville version). The current Scarlet Speester is Wally West (who was the Flash prior to Bart). Wally, was my generation (X-gener), he was/is your typical sarchastic and much more not so serious superhero (which was the opposite of his predecessor Barry Allen) and the fastest Flash of any of them. If you've seen any of the recent Justice League cartoons (not the Supefriends from way back), you get a glipmse of Wally (who is actually voiced by Lex Luthor of Smallville, Michael Rosenbaum) as I describe him above. The Flash..the fastest man alive.
My other favorite is from the marvel universe, Nova. Nova is the man. His story is similiar to the Green Lantern of how he obtained his powers (just no power ring), and is a hero who resides and protects space.
Mo, its grreeeeat to see you reading these graphic novels!! There are two I can recommend..
Civil War - turns the marvel universe upside down that is still in pieces today.
Annhiliation - Puts Civil war series to shame, based on the universe being taken over, with one man trying to stop it... Nova!!
...gosh I'm such a nerd....
It's funnier when he says it...
@ Cap'n - it's funnier when the Tick says it or when I say it? :)

I want her to capture me and make me tell the truth, if you know what I mean. ;)

@ Capn - Yeah, I'm enjoying reading these, but I want to get a wide spectrum first of all the different stuff out there. I will read that stuff you recommended, but need to add it to the list. I have the entire Y: The Last Man series to finish, and I really want to start Watchmen since the film is coming out soon.

I guess my dad doesn't count as a superhero does he? Shucks!
I'll take Mighty Mouse.

I'll take Mighty Mouse; he's small and very FAST!

But I think I'm going to have to go with the newest Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes. Reyes is a teenager from El Paso who has an ancient piece of alien technology fused to his spine that gives him superpowers. The characterizations by John Rogers (blog here) are real and touching, as Jaime still lives at home with his very awesome family. There's more fun in BB than most any other comic out of the big two publishers today. (Mostly, sadly, because everyone has been trying to out-do Frank Miller for the past 20+ years instead of do original work.)
Rogers, btw, wrote the pilot for Global Frequency which the WB idiotically shelved. It's based on a series of comics by Warren Ellis and tells the story of a secret global organization of experts who solve difficult and complex problems. If you can find a copy of the torrent, (not that I'm recommending piracy) and watch it, you should. Great TV. You might also want to pick up the trade collections of Ellis's GF comics. He's one of the most interesting and prolific creators working in comics today.
