On Tuesday we posted about a Pop Critics outing in Phoenix to see The Dark Knight. Well, that took place earlier this morning at 3:15 AM. Joining me were Richard Porter, Cap’n Schwartz and The Trousered Ape. If you spend any time reading the comments on our articles here, you know these guys’ names.

  • Man, I wish I could have been there.
  • Dude - you would have had a blast - a good time was had by all!
  • Brilliant movie - brilliant insights - and why am I not surprised that you describe your self as a moron and your phone as genius? lol
  • It's a good phone, what can I say? :)
  • I looking to pick up the iPhone G3 in Feb 09.
  • CG – seamless, not intrusive" There was CG?!?!? I choose to not believe there was any CG.... =)
  • were you there? lol :)
  • I think that was me... it was pretty early and Dark out so I cant be sure...
  • You are such the Joker...in a Jack Nicholson kind of way. Heath was a Joker in a Jack Nicholson as "here's Johnny" kind of way...
  • I'm confused... did you guys like it?

    :-P

Sounds like this should be my semiyearly action movie!
  • Definitely...
  • Great reviews all.

RA- the Robin stuff actually made my stomach sink for a minute.
  • I know, I was reading his review and for a second thought I missed something in the movie about Robin, LOL!
  • I was actually scared and then just hoping it would be a joke, but then thinking this isn't April.
    Whew!
  • yah what a bastard, my stomach dropped too, that or my testes ascended.
  • ROTFL!
  • I thought I had fallen asleep - I couldn't figure out what he was talking about...
  • Yeah, I just couldn't resist that joke. Not sure why. :)
  • Was a total great time and Awesome to meet the guys... Mike thanks so much for the ticket!!
  • Happy Birthday my friend...

    Was a blast.
  • I was so caught up in being sad that I wasn't there that I think I forgot to mention something.

    Great job guys!
  • Ok, so I finally had the chance to see TDK over the weekend. Let me start by saying that I think disappointment is inevitable when a movie gets so much build up. That said I liked TDK a lot and agree with much of the positive reviews, but here are my thoughts.

    1. Heath Ledger made this movie, I would have liked to see more of him in it as he owned every scene he was in. Was he Oscar worthy? I'm not sure I'd go that far.
    2. Christian Bale is great as Batman. No question he's the best to don the cape so far, but please do something about the raspy Batman voice. It just seems a bit forced and silly.
    3. Memo to Christopher Nolan; edit, edit, edit. TDK was easily 30 mins too long. Just end it.
    4. Thank You Maggie Gyllenhall for taking over from Katie "I'm Tom's robot" Holmes. You were great.
    5. I'm a little sad that 'Two-face' is dead(and given the way they made TDK he needs to stay dead), I would have liked to see more of him in the next one.

Overall a really good movie, i'd give it 8.5/10.
  • Glad you liked it... it is really hard to go see it with it having Ultimate hype about greatest this and greatest that. Glad to see you could still enjoy it and not have expectations set to high to see past it. I have to say I agree with your number 4, Maggie blows up real nicely....
  • 30 minutes too long? No way, I wanted more!

So you are saying after all the build up, you were disappointed?
  • Definitely too long, it felt like it was ready to end several times before it finally did.

I don't know if I'm disappointed, just didn't come away loving it as much as others.
  • That's so weird, because it was so hyped before I saw it, and it surpassed
    all the expectations I had...
  • I have to echo Mike here. I felt the film was going to be so hyped that it couldn't live up to expectations, but I was surprised by how well I liked it. I mentioned in my review that he might could have cut some time from the length of the film, but we don't know what that would have done to the story so I give the director the benefit of the doubt.
  • 30 minutes is a TON of movie to cut...that would have meant less Joker, less
    Harvey, less Batman...

I dunno...maybe 5 minutes could have been cut, but not 30. This thing was a
    masterpiece of storytelling.
  • I know you guys and many others, just loved it and I wanted to really bad. In the end I really liked it, just not as much as some.

I guess it's like loving someone and being in love with someone. ;-)
  • Kinda like I love eating healthy but am in love with Pizza...
  • I can see Scottys point of view , its hard to hear all the high expectations, you set a bar so high you go in making check that it is not living up to and you almost find your self auto disliking a movie, but in this case, this movie was all that and a bag of chips.... I'm not sure what could have been cut though...I thought it was the middle prridge myself and the length was jusssst right!!
  • Two-Face is not dead, guys--Harvey Dent is. Batman will be on the run for all of the death's that Two-Face is responsible for and he'll be blamed for Dent's death.
  • I'm not sure it will ever be addressed, lets say Nolan agree to do a 3rd Batman, odds are he won't pick right up where this story leaves off, and we'll have to imagine what happened, with tidbits of Gothams take if Batman is a hero or a hated...
  • The most enjoyable part of the movie was the Joker. I can't join the masses and say how much I loved it because after about and hour and thirty minutes I would have loved it to be over. I'm just not that lazy. I felt like they were trying to cram as much as they could into the movie. Just when I thought it was over it wasn't. It was just waaay too long my bum was begging for mercy. I could have waited for the video it would have been much more comfortable and I'd save ten bucks. I was more impressed with Iron Man. There was so much hype that I was just disappointed.
  • Yeah the movie has built the huge wall of hype, its understandable if it detracts from what could be a great experience then from hearing its the godsend of movies from others. I was able to see this first without expectations so wouldnt have to deal with the hype of it...
  • I appreciate not being told I'm crazy because that is definitely a first. Since I didn't love it I'm am now an outcast.(lol). I'm dying to see the Watchmen I was thoroughly impressed by the trailer. They had better not be just showing the best parts of the movie or I will be so pissed.
  • I've already seen other parts Jana, and they are just as good.
  • Based on Mikes review of the additional Watchmen footage, this sounds like we can be excited for it to come...without setting high expectations all over again.. =)
