Toshiba kills format war; RIP HD-DVD

Started by Mike Olbinski · 10 months ago

I know a few of you are going to enjoy this post because secretly you’ve wanted HD-DVD to crash and burn so you can relish in my misery. I don’t know where the hate comes from, but I think you all need some counseling.
Tuesday Toshiba, the main backer and supporter of t ... Continue reading »

  • We're just sad for you, Mike. Really. Our condolences on your loss.

Jason A Clark's last blog post..Stallone To Do “Cliffhanger Sequel?
  • Aahhh. You must feel like a puppy without a home.

Don't worry, time heals all wounds... well that and watching movies on Blu-ray. Sweet!
  • [Insert the Simpson laughing kid pointing at you and saying "AH HA" here]
  • Thank goodness. Now we can finally bury this horse instead of continually beating it.

Hey Mike - I'm guessing that might be the most expensive door-stop you've ever purchased, eh? :)

LOTR on Blu will be fantastic when that happens. New Line needs to get their at together and just do it already...
  • It sucks for the people that already invested in HD-DVD. But when this format war started, most of the mainstream public was of the mind to not purchase any format because there was no telling who would win. And now those that invested in HD-DVD are angry. Well, not to sound like an a-hole, but I (and many others) saw this coming last year and nobody listened. Now a lot of people (including Mike) are paying the price.
  • I wouldn't go so far to say it sucks. It is price one pays for wanting to be an early adopter. This is how it works and even though I josh Mike around about it - I do not think he is all that broke up about it. He dove into the HD arena and just ended up on the wrong end - no harm or shame in that.
  • Well, it was sort of an impulse buy, I will admit...when I saw it for $200 and 10 free HD-DVDs, I thought it was a good sign, plus I sold my 360 for more than the DVD player, so it wasn't costing me much out of pocket.

But it's a bummer regardless....still, the player is VERY good at upconverting so we're enjoying that.
  • I dug a hole in the backyard yesterday, so that Mike and I can give our HD-DVD player a proper burial. I can almost hear Taps playing softly in the distance. You died a good death, HD player, you definitely didn't go down without a fight!
  • Gee Mo, You made the purchase and here Jina is cleaning up after you by digging the hole... I hope you got her a very nice valentines gift!!
  • Such a mean wife...such a mean wife...

    :)

Of course, we can't bury it because IT'S THE ONLY DVD PLAYER WE HAVE!
  • Universal and Paramount have officially dropped HD-DVD.
